What's new?

April 22, 2021 – Cubase 11.0.20 is here, and it comes with many fixes and improvements. There is also new functionality, which we have been working on in recent weeks.

The Apple silicon transition is currently a big topic in the whole music production industry, and we are happy to announce official support for Rosetta 2 with this Cubase update.

There are improvements to HiDPI, a long-awaited addition to EuCon support and some fixes that directly address the feedback we received about the last update.

Please download and install the Cubase 11.0.20 core application in the Steinberg Download Assistant, which should already be installed on your system. If not, you can find it here.

As always, your feedback is highly appreciated, so please let us know what you think about the 11.0.20 update in our community forum.

There are some general changes that you should be aware of

Apple silicon Rosetta 2 support

We have completed our tests on Apple’s new M1 system, and we are happy to announce that Cubase 11.0.20 officially supports the Rosetta 2 translation layer. Please still make sure that your whole system, including your third-party plug-ins and audio device drivers, support Big Sur and Rosetta 2 in order to avoid instabilities.

New scaling options in HiDPI mode on Windows 10

There are new scaling options available for HiDPI mode in Windows 10. In Preferences > General, the application can now be set up with a predefined scaling factor different to the one set in the Windows Display settings. You can increase or decrease (from 25% to 50%) the scaling factor attributed to the application from the one set as default in the Windows Display settings. Please make sure you restart the application to apply the changes.

EuCon and Track Visibility

There is a new option in the Studio Setup > Remote Devices > EuCon control panel that allows you to apply the channel visibility status of the MixConsole to connected Avid control surfaces. This option only affects EuConized channels that are autoassigned in the EuControl settings.

Meters & colors

There were some issues with the meters and the meter coloring in the last update that have now been fixed:

Presets could not be loaded.

Default color changed for +3 dB (channel meter).

In the Meter tab, +6 dB and +12 dB digital scales were removed.

Removing projects from the list in the Hub

"Remove from list" now works as intended in the Project Assistant of the Steinberg Hub.

Double-click Stop to return to start

When Preferences > Transport > Return to Start Position on Stop is disabled, clicking twice on the Stop button in the Transport Bar now correctly returns to start.

"Could not create record file" issue

Some users reported that they were unable to record audio since updating to Cubase 11. This issue was caused by the removal of the support of the Wave 64 format.

When loading projects created in versions using the Wave 64 format, it was not possible to activate "Record Enable" on audio tracks and an error message was displayed.

Inverted mouse wheel zoom on macOS

Zooming with modifier key and mouse wheel is no longer inverted when "Scroll Direction: Natural" is disabled in the macOS preferences for Trackpad/Mouse.

Direct Offline Processing

The user interface of plug-ins without HiDPI compatibility is now correctly displayed in Direct Offline Processing at all screen resolutions.

The Direct Offline Processing user interface has been changed so that the Extend Process Range and Tail functions cannot be used together to prevent malfunctions.

Referenced media files of tracks imported from a project or track archive can no longer be deleted from their origin path if the project is closed without saving.

Export Selected Tracks with activated option "Copy Media" no longer results in track archives that caused invalid event data and serious error messages when imported to another system.

Sends are no longer incorrectly panned in a surround to stereo routing if Link Panner was active.

Preferences > VST > Plug-ins > "Plug-in Editors “Always on Top”: The behaviour has been changed so that this preference now defines the default state in which plug-ins are opened. Each plug-in still remembers its individual "Always on Top" state when you manually change it for a specific plug-in window.

When adding tracks with an Avid S6 console attached.

When searching in the MediaBay.

When setting the Audio Connections window to "Always on Top".

On Mac models with AMD Vega graphics where the user interface could freeze in intermittent intervals (recurring beach balls).

Cubase 11.0.10

What's new?

January 27, 2021 – We are very pleased with all of the positive feedback regarding the stability and the performance of the initial release. For the first maintenance update, Cubase 11.0.10, we have corrected functionality which did not work as expected and have further improved the stability in several different areas.

Please download and install the Cubase 11.0.10 core application in the Steinberg Download Assistant, which should already be installed on your system. If not, you can find it here.

There are some general changes that you should be aware of

Status on Apple Silicon Support

Cubase 11.0.10 does not officially support Apple Silicon systems. Both native support as well as the support of the Rosetta 2 translation layer are planned for Cubase. While there are already some improvements and fixes for Rosetta 2 support in Cubase 11.0.10, the comprehensive tests of our quality assurance team have yet to be completed. The native support of Apple Silicon is still under investigation, and therefore it is too early to provide a date when it might be available.

Big Sur Compatibility for Groove Agent SE and Retrologue

New releases of GrooveAgent SE (version 5.0.40) and Retrologue (version 2.2.40) fix the graphical issues in the instruments user interface on macOS 11 Big Sur and are available as separate downloads in the Steinberg Download Assistant.

Apple Metal support

We have received reports about graphical issues (spinning balls) on systems using AMD Radeon Pro Vega series graphic cards on macOS previous to macOS Big Sur. Apple has fixed the issue with macOS Big Sur. If you don’t want to or cannot update to macOS Big Sur, we have added a new preference, Disable GPU Acceleration in the category User Interface. This will solve the issue on versions of macOS prior to Big Sur. Be aware that selecting the preference will considerably affect the performance of the user interface.

Steinberg Houston controller

Although the Houston controller is no longer supported by Steinberg and has been removed from the remote list in Cubase 11, we have re-introduced it as an unsupported device in the list. However, we have not tested it and we cannot guarantee full functionality in Cubase 11.

Direct Offline Processing Pin Process was unpinned when the window was closed.

The waveforms of audio events could disappear at high zoom levels after applying Direct Offline Processing.

Score Editor

In some cases incorrect note heads were displayed in Tablature Mode.

Printing scores could render the application unreliable while a Note Editing Overlay was still open.
